What is Artraiture?

Artraiture is the art of taking your favorite photographs, regardless of quality, and bringing them to glorious life with original artwork by portrait artist Tony Wallace. Artraiture can be created using a single image, or several. Lips too washed out in your favorite shot, but the shot where your lips look fantastic, you don't like the rest of your expression? Why not combine them? Or maybe you think you'd look perfect in your favorite pic as a vampire, or a tribal warrior. You know you've imagined it before. Now you can immortalize your darker side, and share it with the world, or simply keep it on your desk as a remember of your personal strength. Artraiture is all these things and more. It is portraiture, given new life.

Who is Tony Wallace?

Artist and writer Tony Wallace has been drawing and painting professionally since 1992; everything from book cover art, to character design, and is the creator of the animated series Sunstorm Saga (currently in preproduction). Check the about page for more information on Tony.

How much does it cost?

What is a "darkside"?

A darkside painting, is a painting based on your original image, but with an added twist of fantasy, whimsy or alternative identity.

What medium are these made in?

Originally images were sketched in graphite, then scanned in and painted in Photoshop, but now all images are painted entirely digitally.

How long does it take?

Turnover depends entirely on the current backlog, but can be done as fast as two days.

Can I submit more than one picture for a painting? I like my eyes in one, but my hair in another.

Absolutely. Painting from several images is generally more complicated and time consuming. Additional images can be submitted for only $10 each.

I want a darkside painting, but I'm not sure what I want to be. Can you pick something?

Absolutely. Most darkside paintings have been created based on how the original image inspires me. You're welcome of course to request something specific, but equally welcome to let me surprise you.

Can I submit a nude photo?

Nude photos are handled discreetly and tastefully. No one will see your photos or the end result except the artist himself, without your permission.

What if my favorite photo is a nude, but I don't want to submit myself naked?

It's perfectly acceptable to use photoshop or your favorite image editing software to crop an image, or to paint over what you don't want showing, but not necessary. If you want something skin tight painted, just remember it's easier to add clothing to your form than to guess what's underneath it.

Can I get more than one darkside? I have this other great idea, but i can't decide...

No problem. You can order as many darksides as you want for an additional fee of 30% of the total quote each.

Can I order more prints?

The first 8X10 print comes with the artraiture cost. Additional prints are $6.95 each.
